Workout clothes are cloths that are worn during exercise and practicing sessions. Right selection of workout clothes is essential for better execution of exercises in addition to providing a feeling of personal comfort.

Selection of workout clothes involves a number of considerations like the nature of the exercise and weather.

Nature of Exercise
Nature of exercise plays a major role in the selection of workout cloths. High intensity training produces lot of sweat. Hence workout cloths made of performance fabric are preferable.

Sports Specific Workout Clothes

Though cross training workout clothes are available some sports like cycling, weight lifting and swimming require special workout clothes. In the case of Cycling padded shorts are preferred, along with cycling shoes. In the case of weight lifting adequate care must be taken to wear wrist bands. Swimming requires one piece suit ideally. In the case of yoga special workout clothes are available.

Weather

Weather conditions must be taken into account while selecting workout clothes. Exercise clothes worn during summer will not be sufficient for cold climates. In warm weathers light colored clothing are ideal for exercise. Sweat shirts made of moisture wicking fibers are ideal. In cold weather wear layers of clothing, with a moisture wicking fabric as the first layer can be used. The clothes should provide enough freedom of movement. If you get too warm you can shed one layer or two. A wind resistance jacket can help protect the athletes from wind and cold. Jackets with hoods and gloves can be use for additional protection.

Fabric
Synthetic fabrics have made their impact felt in workout cloth production as well. Many of the manufactures have their own brand of synthetic fabrics which have moisture wicking, anti microbial and UV protection features. This provides personal comfort.

Freedom of Movement

Always select clothes that give maximum freedom of movement. Exercise clothes should not be baggy or too tight.

Comfort

Cloths that are comfortable to wear should be worn as work out cloths. Synthetic fabrics comes handy here since they are breathable and moisture absorbing. Cotton shirts will wick the moisture away, but they will stick to the body and provide poor ventilation.

Ideal Workout Clothes

Ideal workout clothes include sweat pants, shorts and T-shirts. When working upper body, tank tops can be used since one can actually observe the movements of the muscles. Sweat shirt are all time favorites especially in warmer climates. In cooler climates breathable sport jackets with hoods, leggings and gloves are preferable. With pants and shorts, it’s always better to have a stretchable waist band. It is always good to have a fabric that removes skin moisture here as well. So far as shorts are concerned make sure that they are long enough to prevent rubbing of the thighs and chafing.

Selection of Socks

For high intensity training exercises socks with thick layering are preferred since they absorb shock. Always select socks made of synthetic materials that have moisture wicking functions.

Emerging Trends

Stylish workout clothes are the pick of the year. They include snug fitting apparels, Capri fit pants or shorts, and stylish sweat suits with hooded jackets and low-rise pants.
Workout cloths should be chosen with considerations of comfort and easy movement. Flashy workout clothes may be a treat to the eyes, but may not serve the purpose of exercise.
