Sports Equipment

Sports equipment includes any object used for sports or exercise. Examples for sports include balls, goals, hockey sticks and lacrosse, bats, wickets and bails for cricket, nets for tennis, volleyball and badminton.

Baseball Equipment

The base-ball is the most fundamental piece of equipment in the game. It is a cork sphere, tightly wound with layers of yarn or string and covered with a stitched leather coat. Equally important is the rounded, solid wooden or hollow aluminum bat (used in amateur games only). There are canvas bags at first, second, and third base, and a rubber plate at home. Leather glove is worn by players in the field.

Long fingers and a webbed “pocket” between the thumb and first finger allow the fielder to catch the ball more easily. Leather mitt, known as the catcher’s mitt, is worn by catchers. In addition there are batting gloves and helmet, and baseball cap. Female players wear a pelvic protector, also known as a jill strap, to protect their genitals from injury during play. Baseball shoes have spikes to increase traction on dirt and grass. Different levels of competition may allow different types of spikes. The stirrup stocking allow for a protective layer of material around the leg.

Ice Hockey Equipment

In ice hockey, players use specialized equipment both to facilitate the play of the game and for protection. Two things that are general, non-protective equipment are the hockey puck and the hockey sweater. Equipment used by regular players include Helmet Combo, Shoulder Pads, Elbow Pads, Hockey Gloves, Hockey Pants, Jock/cup, Shin Guards, Mouthguard, Ice skates, and hockey stick.

Goal tending equipments include Goal stick, skates, helmet and wire facemask, chest and arm protector, blocker (worn on the hand that holds the stick), catch glove (worn on the opposite hand), goal jill, goal pants, goal pads up to knees, and socks, covering the leg from the foot to just above the knee or above.

Golf Equipment

Golf clubs are used in the golf to hit a golf ball. Each club is composed of a shaft with a lance (grip) and a clubhead. There are many specialized designs of club, falling into three general categories, viz. woods, used for long-distance fairway shots; irons, the most versatile class used for a variety of shots; and putters, used mainly on the green to roll the ball into the cup. The golf ball is spherical. It must not weigh more than 1.620 oz (45.93 grams), that its diameter must not be less than 1.680 in (42.67 mm), and that its shape may not differ significantly from a symmetric sphere.

Trialthlon Equipment

Triathlon includes three-stage races including swimming, cycling, and running in the same event. This sport requires specialized equipment. Equipment for a swim include a cap, goggles, nose clip and a swimsuit or wetsuit. Usually, participants must wear a swim cap provided by the event. Any artificial propulsion device, e.g. fin, sock, glove, paddle or flotation device except a wet suit, is prohibited.

The most obvious feature of a triathlon bicycle is the aero-bars. In addition, many components of a triathlon bicycle are designed with an aerodynamic profile. Triathlon shoes are similar to other forms of cycling shoe used in racing, with automatic binding cleats that snap the cyclist’s feet to the pedals.

Triathletes often lace their shoes with elastic shoelaces. This allows them to pre-set the tension of the laces but then to pull on the shoes without stopping to tie the laces. This saves a few seconds of time during the bike-to-run transition.

Personal protective equipment (PPE) refers to protective clothing, helmets, goggles, or other gear designed to protect the wearer’s body or clothing. Protective clothing is also worn for contact sports, such as ice hockey and American football. Baseball players wear sliding shorts and a cup under their pants.
